Also, I do not use the RAID function at all so I can't speak for it. I use it in multiple operating systems (Windows XP, 2000 and 98). In additon, DO NOT use a program called PDQI.exe to back up partitions and files with it. All work fine on 160 GIG drive. My only problem was to copy the XP and 2000 driver from the CD to a Floppy and install it using the F8 command during startup. That program is not functioning correctly with this controller and will corrupt files. I now use other backup programs and they work fine.
THe product worked fine and arrived on time. Unfortunately for me, the problem was in the motherboard.
I'm not sure about the problems others here had.I plugged the card in a pci slot. Booted up computer.XP recognized it and asked for the drivers.Drivers installed and it worked fine.I have 2 500 gig WDs slaves hooked to it and they are working fine.My Master drive is a sata.I had 2 ATA IDE drives from my old system that I wanted to add to my new computer.
I've used this product in two machines now and it works great for setting up small office servers. I have one running on an XP Pro machine and using it for a Web and FTP server. It works flawlessly. Great product for a person on a budget.
My system (Vista Home Premium) recognized the card immediately and installed the default driver. The document and driver CD that came in the box are very poor and confusing. Here is some information for people having trouble with installation of this card:First try not to connect any IDE devices to the card before installing the driver. The read/write speed is pretty good (20-30MB/s). I installed this card with two old IDE hard drives connected to it. Try re-insert the card into the PCI slot. Use those drivers to install. The appropriate drivers for different systems can be found on the chipset manufacturer's website.
Take off the jumper on the hard drive. I am not setting up RAID, so I uninstalled the device driver and re-installed the non-RAID driver manually. It works fine so far. After installing the driver, if it still doesn't recognize your hard drive, check a few things. However, since this card has a RAID controller, the system automatically intalled the RAID version of the driver. The chipset on this card is Silicon Image Sil-680. If you have two hard drives, try connect one to each IDE port on the card. These things helped me to get it work.
